Toast to the Holidays with Cyrstal Glasses

Updated: Jul 15

The thrill of the hunt is as intoxicating as the festive spirit that fills the air. And what's my quarry? Crystal glasses. Not just any glasses, but the Waterford's, the Baccarat's, the luxury brands that would normally cost a pretty penny. So how does one distinguish crystal from plain glass while thrifting?

1.First, examine the piece for small bubbles or seams – true depression glass often has these telltale signs.

2.Secondly, hold the glassware in one hand, gently gripping it by the rim or stem. A crystal piece will chime when tapped, while glass simply clinks

3.Another interesting way to spot crystal is to shine a black light on it. Due to the lead content, crystal will glow with a blue or purple tint

4. And let's not forget the weight - crystal is heavier than glass, so if the piece feels substantial, it could be your lucky day. Some of the higher-end crystal brands, such as Waterford, identify their brand by subtly etching their logo onto the glass

5. So keep an eye out for those hidden signatures. Now that you've scored some beautiful crystal glasses, what better way to celebrate your find than with a festive cocktail?

Here's a simple yet delightful holiday drink recipe:

Cranberry Prosecco Fizz Ingredients:

1 cup of cranberry juice

1 bottle of Prosecco

Fresh cranberries for garnish

So here's to the thrill of the hunt, the joy of discovery, and the sparkle of crystal. May your holidays be bright and your glasses never empty!
